Comprised of over 1600 small-scale farmers across four regional organizations, the Pronatur co-op is dedicated not only to sustainable organic agriculture, but also to developing its membership through agricultural, business and leadership training.
AgVisors provides an integrated process of mixed hands-on and classroom training, enhanced by participation in Pronatur activities and community projects to develop both farm and farmer. They have introduced education programs for growers that emphasize ecological sustainability, pest and disease control, sustainable farming methods, soil and crop management, crop record keeping and quality improvement.
This critical process permits the identification, selection and training of technical personnel as well as prepping the mentors for future generations of Peruvian farmers. Additionally, various other programs benefit both growers and their communities. The overall result is an increase in crop quality, higher prices and larger yields for these small family farms.
